The New York Yankees have secured victories in the first two games of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians. Throughout the postseason, Aaron Boone has received outstanding contributions from his relievers. Over 23.1 innings across six postseason games, New York’s bullpen has surrendered only two earned runs, boasting an impressive 0.77 ERA in the playoffs.
Heading into the playoffs, many fans doubted the strength of the Yankees’ bullpen. Clay Holmes had set a record for the most blown saves during the regular season, leaving Boone with few reliable options.
However, in the postseason, key players have risen to the occasion. Without the relievers’ strong performances, the Yankees wouldn’t be just two wins away from the World Series.
The Yankees’ bullpen is peaking at the ideal moment New York’s closer, Luke Weaver, has been exceptional, aside from one pitch to Jose Ramirez. In seven innings of postseason work, Weaver has allowed just one run on three hits. Holmes has also been outstanding, not allowing a single earned run during the playoffs. Tommy Kahnle has been flawless as well, with no runs allowed in four playoff appearances.

Offensively, the Yankees feature a star-studded lineup. Giancarlo Stanton and Juan Soto have been on fire, while Aaron Judge broke out of his slump with a three-run home run in Game 2 of the ALCS.
Despite the Yankees’ potent offense, the starting pitchers have been inconsistent. Carlos Rodon delivered a strong performance in Game 1 of the ALCS but has struggled overall this postseason. Even Gerrit Cole has been shaky in two out of his three outings.
Boone has relied heavily on his bullpen this postseason, and it has paid off. If Judge and the rest of the lineup continue to perform at a high level, coupled with the relievers’ dominant pitching, the Yankees will be tough to beat.
The Yankees are now just two wins away from their first American League pennant since 2009. The relievers have played a pivotal role in reaching this point. If they maintain their performance, the Yankees might bring the 28th World Series trophy to the Bronx.
