Why Britt Baker Was Absent from AEW Dynamite?

AEW Dynamite on October 8 was set to feature a high-stakes match between Britt Baker and Willow Nightingale to determine the number one contender for the AEW Women’s World Championship.

However, the match was replaced by a four-way contest featuring Nightingale, Jamie Hayter, Nyla Rose, and Saraya. Nightingale emerged victorious in the 4-Way Eliminator match, earning her a shot at the championship against Mariah May at AEW WrestleDream on October 12.

Britt Baker has since addressed her absence in a video shared on Twitter, revealing that she was sidelined with strep throat. She explained:

“I still have strep throat, but I sound way worse than I actually feel. I feel so much better now. Two days ago, I was dying, but now we’re good. I went to urgent care, got tested for strep, took antibiotics, got an IV shot. I’m good. I’m on the mend.”

Baker also spoke about the impact of Hurricane Milton, which affected the Florida region, and shared some advice:

“For future reference, if you’re in an area that can be affected by a hurricane – stock the f**k up. I messed up. I didn’t think I was going to be here, I was supposed to be at Dynamite in Washington, so I was like, I’m fine. Change of plans, I got strep throat, I got stuck in Orlando, and there were no supplies by the time I realized that. There was no gas, water, nothing, all the essentials gone off all the shelves. Stock up, don’t be a dumbass like me.”

Baker recently returned to AEW Dynamite on October 2, having been absent since AEW All In in London on August 25. She mentioned that her loss to AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Mone had pushed her “to the back of the line” in the championship contention.
