During tonight’s episode of WWE Raw, a new tournament was unveiled aimed at identifying the next contenders for a championship match.
In a backstage segment, Raw General Manager Adam Pearce informed Finn Balor that he would not be granted a rematch against Damian Priest. Instead, a tournament will commence tonight on Raw to establish who will challenge Balor and JD McDonagh for the World Tag Team Championship.
The tournament kicked off with a match featuring Akira Tozawa and Otis, who faced off against the returning War Raiders. The War Raiders, rebranded with their original name and new entrance music, marked their return after several months away from the ring by securing a victory and advancing in the tournament.
By the conclusion of WWE Raw, two additional matches were announced for the tournament. Next week, The New Day will go head-to-head with the Authors of Pain. Additionally, Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio are set to team up to take on the American Made duo of Julius and Brutus Creed.
As of now, a detailed bracket for the tournament has yet to be released.
Finn Balor and JD McDonagh captured the World Tag Team Championship back in June, defeating the Awesome Truth team comprised of R-Truth and The Miz.
