The final member of Rahul Dravid’s coaching staff has found a new position, reflecting Dravid’s own words after his tenure with the Indian team concluded in the Caribbean. Paras Mhambrey, who served as the bowling coach under Dravid, has reportedly secured a role with an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise.
Dravid had previously remarked, “I will be able to move on quickly from this win. Next week, I will be unemployed. I don’t want to think too far ahead, but yes, I hope, I will be able to move on. I think that’s what life is all about,” following India’s victory in the Twenty20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29.
Since then, Dravid has joined the Rajasthan Royals, accompanied by Vikram Rathour, the former India batting coach, who has also moved to Jaipur to continue working with Dravid. Mhambrey, renowned for guiding Indian bowlers to excel across formats, was anticipated to follow and join the Royals.
However, Cricbuzz has learned that Mhambrey is set to join the Mumbai Indians, a franchise he was previously affiliated with before his roles with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). While officials have not officially commented, it is confirmed that the 52-year-old, who played two Tests and three ODIs, will be part of the Mumbai Indians’ camp for the upcoming season.
The Mumbai Indians, five-time champions, already have Lasith Malinga as a bowling coach, and the division of responsibilities remains to be seen. Mahela Jayawardene, who oversees all coaches associated with Mumbai Indians globally – including MI Emirates, MI Cape Town, and MI NY – will manage the delegation of duties.
Among other notable staff from Dravid’s tenure, fielding coach T Dilip has been retained by the BCCI for the national team and is currently working under head coach Gautam Gambhir.
In other news, the BCCI is considering Singapore as a potential location for the IPL auction, slated for the end of November. Additionally, a city in Saudi Arabia is also being evaluated. IPL officials are currently deliberating their options, and many franchises have expressed the need for early notification to arrange visas and travel for their representatives.
